INTERVIEW WITH LIVY LYNN
- What is the heart behind Crown of Beauty?
Our heart is that every woman would know who she is in Christ! We are in a battle over our identity. The world is constantly sending toxic messages about beauty, value, success, etc. that can really worm its way into our hearts and erode the truth of His Word. We are all about bringing it back to the Bible, diving deep in His Word, and relishing in the beauty of His amazing love for us! - I've heard that Crown of Beauty was founded on a lifelong dream and passion. How do you hope this magazine impacts the current--or new--generations?
As a young teen, I had a close friend who struggled with an eating disorder. It absolutely broke my heart to see her battling with those lies. I feel like we don't talk about this enough, but womanhood possesses its own unique challenges (and beauty!), and so often I feel like we just skirt around these issues, paste a smile on our faces, and try to pretend that we're not struggling. The truth is, we are ALL in this battle together. We have an enemy (the devil) who absolutely hates God's daughters and is doing everything he can to shut down, discourage, silence, and victimize Jesus' beautiful bride, the body of Christ. My prayer is that this magazine and ministry will combat the enemy's lies in our lives, as we go deep in His word, firm ourselves up in His truth, and be completely transformed by the love of Christ! I believe that as God's daughters, it's our job to encourage and pour into one another, for the older women to teach the younger women (Titus 2:3-5), so creating a magazine for this next generation feels like the least I could do for them! Like, yes, it is a huge undertaking, but there's been so much grace on this project, because I feel God's heart so strongly for His girls! He has been providing for every last detail, and I know He wants to show off His beauty, goodness, and kindness through this project! It is my prayer that everyone who picks up a copy of Crown of Beauty will draw closer to Jesus! - We live in such a fast-paced, crazy world. What are some of the ways Crown of Beauty will offer advice or encouragement on a simpler, godly way of living for young ladies?
One of the ways I see Crown of Beauty combatting the craziness of this world is by producing physical, print media. The fact that we choose to scroll on our phones instead of sit down and spend time with media that will encourage and inspire us, is something we need to change. In the era of "iPad kids", we can encourage each other to slow down, grab a pen and a journal, and take time to truly reflect on what we're looking at. There's actually a section in our debut issue that talks about how to spend less time on your phone, which is a reminder I think all of us could use, even if we're not "addicted" to screen time. Our debut issue features a Bible Study, sweet summer party ideas to host with your friends, clip art for scrapbooking, and so much more! Slowing down long enough to appreciate the beauty and whimsy of the little things in life is huge, and it's my prayer that receiving a quarterly magazine in the mail, will help this generation do just that. :) - Okay, here's a fun one: If you had to choose one book, movie, or franchise that exemplifies the vibe for Crown of Beauty, what would it be and why?
Ooo, this is such a fun Q, but also a challenging one to answer! I think I'm going to have to go with The Princess Diaries though. The Princess Diaries is such a powerful story about identity. Mia said, "I don't want to run my own country. I just want to pass tenth grade. So, can't I tell everyone that I simply quit?" To which Joe replied, "No one can quit being who they are, not even a princess. You can refuse the job, but you are a princess by birth."
The same is true for us. We can refuse the job. We can live below our calling, we can live like the world, we can ignore who we are in Christ, but royal blood still flows through our veins! There's nothing we could ever do to change the fact that we are His royal daughters, adopted and brought near by the blood of Christ. It is the greatest journey and joy of our lives to step into our royal calling, and we can only do that by renewing our minds in the truth of His word and in His presence! So yes, I would choose the Princess Diaries, because "an average girl who discovers she's a princess and feels wildly intimidated by the prospect" is something we can all relate with and learn from!
